"OPERA OF THE GENERATIONS – OPERA WITHOUT BORDERS"

The 15th Krakow Opera Summer Festival OPERA OF THE GENERATIONS – OPERA WITHOUT BORDERS has come to an end

The Krakow Opera Summer Festival has become a permanent part of the calendar of Krakow’s cultural events. Year after year, it has been attracting an increasing number of spectators, both from home and abroad, and gaining their recognition. This year’s edition, which was entitled OPERA OF THE GENERATIONS – OPERA WITHOUT BORDERS, was organised with the aid of European Union funds under the Ma³opolska Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013 and the funds of the Krakow Province budget, European Funds for Ma³opolska. The festival was divided into two parts. The first one, OPERA OF THE GENERATIONS, was addressed to the youngest spectators and their guardians: parents, grandparents and teachers. That part involved staging three performances between 4 and 8 June. They included: 'Cinderella', a ballet performance to the music by G. Rossini, 'The Forest Book' by J. Hnatowicz, and 'Mr Marimba' by M. Ptaszyñska. The Opera’s offer also featured various educational workshops, oriented at art, music and dance. The second part of the festival, OPERA WITHOUT BORDERS, was inaugurated on 18 June with the premiere of 'Traviata' by G. Verdi, with Krzysztof Nazar as director and Tomasz Tokarczyk as director of music. Pupils, students and journalists had a chance to participate in a special meeting with the creators of the performance. They were welcome to ask questions and take part in the discussion. The premiere of Traviata was accompanied by an exhibition entitled Re-Creations, held on the Mezzanine, which presented the extracurricular passions of stage artists.more »
