G. Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love” at the foot of the Niepołomice Royal Castle!
The Krakow Opera and the Niepołomice Municipality would like to invite you to a performance of “The Elixir Love” by Gaetano Donizetti, which will take place on 17 and 18 June 2018 (at 7:30pm) at the foot of the Niepołomice Royal Castle (the Hippodrome). The performance is part of the 22nd Krakow Opera Summer Festival under the Honorary Patronage of the Marshal of the Krakow Province, Mr Jacek Krupa.
Donizetti’s work is a masterpiece of Italian comic opera. Its main theme is a love affair set in idyllic surroundings. The romantic escapades of the protagonists end happily, owing as much to their belief in the magical power of a mysterious elixir as to their unshakeable conviction that the world they live in is ruled by an eternal order, lenient towards the foibles and errors of human nature.
During the two evenings of performances, we will listen to Iwona Socha (Adina), Monika Korybalska (Gianetta), Andrzej Lampert (Nemorino), Michał Kutnik (Belcore), and Przemysław Firek (Dulcamara). The soloists are accompanied by the Choir, Ballet, and Orchestra of the Krakow Opera conducted by Evgeny Volynskiy.
“Let us remember that the story of Nemorino and his beloved Adina plays out in an Italian village, and Donizetti placed most of the scenes outdoors. Performing in the open air bolsters the imagination, perhaps even more than staging the opera against a lush set”, says Iwona Socha. “When circumstances carry us into an unusual, charming landscape, that very landscape creates an atmosphere which enhances the performance and stage emotions”, she adds.
Tickets (at PLN 60-100) are available at the Krakow Opera as well as at the Malopolska Centre of Sound and Word (Małopolskie Centrum Dźwięku i Słowa) in Niepołomice at ul. Zamkowa 4.
The performance is co-financed by the Krakow Province Assembly as part of the Opera in the Region project.
